I was able to briefly visit the arc de triomf which was constructed to be the main entrance gate for the 1888 world s fair.

It was commissioned in 1806 after the victory at austerlitz by emperor napoleon at the peak of his fortunes.

It was built by architect josep vilaseca i casanovas as the main access gate for the 1888 barcelona world fair. The detailed carvings and red brickwork are appropriately majestic and still very well maintained. The monument is classical in shape and proportions and features ground breaking sculptural and decorative finishes replete with symbolism. The flame of remembrance is rekindled every day at 18 30.

Wanted by napoleon in 1806 the arc de triomphe was inaugurated in 1836 by french king louis philippe who dedicated it to the armies of the revolution and the empire.
